Shipping policy
Bikren is an independent wholesaler. All in-stock goods are picked, packed and dispatched from our warehouse in Germany. We do not ship from the United Kingdom. Out-of-stock products, including Birkenstock styles we have not received, are not dispatched and cannot be ordered. In Shopify, set those variants to inventory tracking with “Don’t continue selling when out of stock”.
Where we deliver
The shop is directed at addresses in the United Kingdom: England, Scotland and Wales, and Northern Ireland. We will say on the product page or at checkout if a postcode is excluded. Channel Islands and Isle of Man addresses are outside UK VAT and may be declined or quoted separately.
Processing and transit
- In-stock orders leave Germany within 1 to 2 business days after we accept the order and payment clears.
- Tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses is usually 3 to 6 business days after the parcel leaves Germany. Highlands, islands and BFPO addresses take longer.
- Business days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in Germany and in the part of the UK we are delivering to.
- A dispatch email includes the carrier and a tracking number. The carrier is the service named on that email, typically a tracked DHL or equivalent EU-to-UK service.
These are estimates, not a guarantee, except that goods should arrive within 30 days unless we agreed a longer period with you before you ordered. If we miss that, a consumer may treat the contract as at an end and receive a refund.
Delivery charges
- Standard tracked delivery from Germany to a UK address is £7.95.
- Standard delivery is free when the merchandise total of in-stock goods is £150 or more.
- Express options, where Shopify shows them, are priced at checkout and are not refunded in full if you cancel and had chosen a method dearer than standard.
The delivery charge is shown before you pay. We do not add a surprise handling fee.
VAT, customs and Incoterms
Goods move from Germany to the UK, so they are an export from the EU and an import into the UK.
- UK consumers, consignments of £135 or less: overseas sellers generally charge UK VAT at the point of sale. Shopify tax should be set so the price a consumer pays includes that VAT. No further import VAT is due on delivery for those consignments.
- UK consumers, consignments over £135: import VAT and any customs duty can be collected on arrival. Unless the order confirmation says we deliver duty paid (DDP), the shipment is DAP (Incoterms 2020) and the charge is collected by the carrier before or on delivery. We will not dispatch an over-£135 consumer order without telling you which of those applies.
- Trade customers: the order confirmation states the Incoterm. The default is DAP to the UK address you give us, and you are responsible for import clearance unless we have agreed DDP and accounted for duty. A valid VAT number may change the invoice treatment. This is the commercial rule, and your accountant should confirm it for your account.
- Northern Ireland: movements from the EU can fall under the Windsor Framework. We confirm the duty and VAT treatment before we dispatch to a BT postcode.
Risk and title
For a consumer, risk passes when the goods are delivered to you, or to a person you have asked to receive them. Title passes when we receive payment in full.
For a trade customer, risk passes according to the Incoterm on the order. Under DAP, risk passes when the goods are placed at your disposal at the named UK address, ready for unloading.
Lost, delayed or damaged parcels
If tracking shows a problem, or a parcel has not arrived within 7 days after the estimated date, email [Add your customer email] with the order number. We claim with the carrier from Germany. For a consumer, if the goods never arrive, we refund or replace them. Check the parcel on arrival and tell us about damage within 7 days, with a photograph. That time limit does not reduce your statutory rights if a fault appears later.
Split shipments
If part of an order is in stock in Germany and part is not, we will not charge you for the out-of-stock line. We either wait until the whole order can leave together, or we send the in-stock part and refund the rest, and we will ask you which you prefer when it happens.
